Riding in the car tonight my oldest daughter played a song she knew that I loved and haven’t heard in a long time called “Thankful” by the group Caedmon’s Call (http://www.caedmonscall.com).

I think a post here tonight is worthy for a song that is so doctrinally sound it brings joy just thinking about it…

You can watch the youtube videos here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3ZWvHY5Jew and here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoQnsg1bXsY.

Enjoy…

Caedmon’s Call \ Thankful

You know I ran across an old box of letters
While I was bagging up some clothes for Goodwill
But you Know I had to laugh at the same old struggles
That plagued me then are plaguing me still
I know the road is long from the ground to glory
But a boy can hope he’s getting some place
But you see, I’m running from the very clothes I’m wearing
And dressed like this I’m fit for the chase

‘Cause no, there is none righteous
Not one who understands
There is none who seek God
No not one, I said no not one

So I am thankful that I’m incapable
Of doing any good on my own

‘Cause we’re all stillborn and dead in our transgressions
We’re shackled up to the sin we hold so dear
So what part can I play in the work of redemption
I can’t refuse, I cannot add a thing

‘Cause I am just like Lazarus and I can hear your voice
I stand and rub my eyes and walk to You
Because I have no choice

I am thankful that I’m incapable
Of doing any good on my own
I’m so thankful that I’m incapable
Of doing any good on my own

‘Cause by grace I have been saved
Through faith that’s not my own
It is a gift of God and not by works
Lest anyone should boast

We have been going through Baptists and the Bible in our Flock hour at church and yesterday we looked at Benjamin Keach and all the Lord did through him. I think one of the most important things done through Keach was the creation of the Baptist Catechism (or Keaches Catechism) for personal and family instruction.

Many people are wondering why the SBC is in decline – it is very simple, first of all we don’t read our Bibles, secondly, we sure don’t study our Bibles – as the most prized possession here on Earth – when we do read them and thirdly, we don’t teach them to our families in a way that instructs them in basic Bible doctrine.

Now I know these are generalities and that they do not apply to everyone all the time but it is definitely a great weakness in the SBC because “As the family goes there goes the Church.”

Want a place to stop the decline and move back into growth – restore family worship time and teach the family Bible doctrine again from the dinner table.

Blessings

Lighthouse

I came across this song as I am preparing for our worship service tomorrow and I think it is very appropriate to post the lyrics for all Christ followers…

When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for truth
Did I live my life for You

When it’s all been said and done
All my treasures will mean nothing
Only what I’ve done for love’s Reward
Will stand the test of time

Lord Your mercy is so great
That You look beyond our Weakness
And find purest gold in miry clay
Making sinners into saints

I will always sing Your praise
Here on earth and ever after
For You’ve shown me Heaven’s my
True home

When it’s all been said and done
You’re my life when life is gone

Lord I’ll live my life for You

Pauls tells us the very words of God when he puts to parchment ”But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57, ESV). In this we see that God get all the thanks and all the glory for everything, our salvation, our victory, our very lives. As we close out this Easter let us give thanks to the one who made it happen and rejoice in the fact that because He lives, we shall live also.

Happy Easter 2008

Sermon Notes

Picture of Sunset - Free Pictures - FreeFoto.com

Today starts the three days Christians have set apart to worship our Lord’s resurrection. Our Faith hinges upon this one fact – He lives! This event is a call to worship Christ Jesus our Lord, worship through the death, burial and a glorious resurrection (not a resuscitation).

“When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”" (1 Corinthians 15:54-55, ESV)

Will you worship? I urge you brothers and sisters to set apart time each day privately and worship our God in each of these aspects for what He has done:

“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:56-58, ESV)

This was encouraging to see…
